All about luxury vinyl flooring: FAQ

Now that you're shopping for flooring, it's time to take another look at vinyl, especially luxury vinyl flooring.

Is it affordable?

This premium yet very affordable product has a high-end style, 100% waterproof capabilities, durability, low maintenance. Installation is fast and uncomplicated and can be a floating floor where pieces click together and mat, then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.

What styles are available?

Who says the word luxury has to mean expensive or high maintenance? With this product, you'll get true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile, all taken with 3D photography. The photos are bright, vivid, and accurate, with knots, grains, swirls, veining variations, and colors and patterns that pop. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as trending wire-brushed, hand-scraped weathered, and distressed appearances.

Luxury vinyl follows all the trends to get anything from gray wood look floors to earthy, neutral stones and colorful geometric ceramic tile echoes. To add to the realism, the material can be cut into boards to mimic hardwood, called vinyl plank flooring (LVP), or groutable squares called LVT flooring (sometimes just referred to as LVT). Waterproofing makes it ideal for the kitchen and bath, but the design makes it suitable for any room in the house, including living/dining spaces, hallways, and bedrooms.

Does it have strong durability?

This is a multi-layered product which automatically makes it firmer. It is five times thicker than standard sheet vinyl and, at the top, is a transparent, strong melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. That coating also helps with waterproofing, keeping spills from absorbing, and on top of that is a urethane finish to add even more strength.

How do you maintain it?

This product is easy to care for, requiring only a regular sweeping (daily, if possible) and a periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Please avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners, as they can damage the urethane finish and dull the floor.
